Major Working Areas of Engr. Abul K. M. Shamsuddin’s Life History covering 57-years [1965-2022] of Professional Activities:

  • Opening of Construction of First Underground Coal Mine of Bangladesh – Barapukuria Coal Mine – in June 1994.
  • Opening of Construction of World’s First Underground Hard Rock [Granite] Mine at Maddhapara, Dinajpur, Bangladesh in October 1995.
  • Discovery of First Oil Field in Bangladesh at Sylhet Gas Fields, Haripur, Sylhet in December 1986.
  • Discovery of First Off-Shore Gas Fields in Bangladesh – Sangu Gas Fields in the Bay of Bengal in 1998.
  • Construction of First High Pressure Gas Pipeline at Sea-bottom in Bangladesh – 52 km long from Sangu Gas Fields to Salimpur, Fouzderhat, Chittagong Gas Processing Plants in 1998-99.
  • Detail Description of Phulbari Coal Deposit discovered in 2004 in Dinajpur was made mentioning the reasons for not to consider open-pit mining as proposed by the Mine Developer.
  • Detail Description for Construction & Development of Khalashpir Coal Mine at Pirganj, Rangpur was made in 2007 and using Khalashpir Coal for Power Generation profitably.
  • Worked as “Project Engineer” in the State Organization for the Distribution of Oil Products & Gas (SODOPAG) under Ministry of Oil, Govt. of Iraq during 1982-83. I worked throughout Iraq in the area of Construction of Oil Distribution Pipelines, Gas Filling Stations, Construction & Installation of High Pressure LPG Vessels.
  • Received Specialized Training in “Coal Mining” in Japan. Worked in Most Mechanized Thick-Seam Coal Mines, MIIKE Collieries, in Japan during September-November 1989.
  • Worked in Coal Mines & Coal Based Power Stations in Australia during 1992.
  • Attended Specialized Certificate Courses on “Petroleum Management” in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA during June-November 1986.
  • Obtained Post-Graduate Diploma on “Mining Exploration” from Delft University of Technology, Delft, The Netherlands in 1980.
